During the raising of funds for Skullgirl's IGG campaign, a bunch of alternate voice packs were added as stretch goals. It's been a long time coming, but with the inclusion of the Real Soviet Announcer voiced by MikeZ, they've finally started appearing in the Beta version of the game!

The full proposed list of voices are:

And to get you all started, here's the Soviet Announcer:

Mike Z pretty good. You hoenstly wouldn't image he could be such a great voice actor from the way he normally talks and sounds. At least, that's what I thought. It's a like a totally different guy! AND IS FUNNEH

Also, yeah, I really like how this voice reel isn't "MikeZ putting on a silly Russian accent", but is actually a legit acting effort. It came out great.

Oh..... that makes a lot more sense.

I thought Mike Z was going to sound cheesy but it turned out really well. I hope we get to hear the other voice packs soon.
My favorite line is definitely "Are you crying? There is no crying in fighting games!" HaHa

When the female announcer gets redone, I hope they get more of that old-timey newscaster intonation in Cristina's voice.
I mean, I assume that's why they're redoing it, as it was it really did just sound like Cristina Vee commentating a game of Skullgirls as opposed to the male announcer, which feels right in place with the setting.

As the only real serious voice pack, I at least hope that's what's going on.

KaboomKid Sure would be nice. ...TUNA FISH!

Yeah, I agree. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing how it turns out.

I can't deny that I have some attachments to the old take though. I liked how Cristina would go from her plain voice, to then suddenly freaking out about something ("Who did that?"). If they could take that fish out of water approach and give it more personality, I think it could be really fun. Like listening to the weather girl getting excited during a wrestling match.

Like you said though, we already have a lot of quirky voice packs lined up, so if the final Female Announcer plays things a bit more "serious," that'll be fine. It'll be fun to listen to either way.

Yo, @Not-So-Saint you oughta post your lingual insights (Captain Pronin, comrade volk) over in this thread too.

Pardon my butchery (Sekhmet: "Butchery!") of the Russian language as I list all the name calls (starts at 2:00 in Cellsai's video):
    • Chelovek-Orkestr (One-man-band)
    • Akrobat (Acrobat)
    • Imitatsiya (Imitation)
    • The other one
    • "skullnitzya"?
    • Amerikan Cartoon
    • Kapitan Pronin (Captain Pronin)
    • "doreena"?
    • "koshka"?
    • Medsestra (Nurse)
    • "Borscht"? (the cold beetroot/tomato soup?!)
    • "strashun"?
    • "troop"?
    • Мэри (Marie)
    • "oo-be-et-zya"?
    • Comrad Volk (Companion/Friend/Fellow Soldier Wolf)
    • Robot
The ones in teal I'm pretty sure of. The rest... *shrugs* kto znayet? Anyone fill in the gaps?

I don't know Russian, bot some words are similar in Polish, allowing to recognise this and that.

Squigly is called труп = corpse.
Filia is called школьница = schoolgirl.
Of these two I'm certain, the rest... are half-blind guesses.

Fortune's "koshka": perhaps Russian for kotka = female kat?
    Painwheel's "straszun": perhaps Russian for strach/straszydło = fright/bogie?
Eliza's "oo-be-et-zya": perhaps Russian for łowczyni = huntress? Or maybe something vampire-related? Hmmm.

I'm basically just leaving some guesses before someone who actually speaks Russian clears things up.
I'm especially curious what is said at 1:51 with "Hold on, /pyrogi/ is here".

Muro is right: troop is corpse, and fillia is schoolgirl (although Mike's pronunciation isn't top-notch on this one =]), Koshka means female cat, as far as strashun goes - this word does not actually exist in Russian, but it's close to strashniy which is adj. for scary. Eliza's убийца means killer (although I misheard it for певица pye-vee-tsah which is singer).
Pyrogi are one of the Russia's trademark dishes which is basically pastry with whatever filling you like. See this.
Parasoul is Tzarina, which is term used outside of Russian language really and means wife of Tsar. Or female ruler in the country where they're supposed to have a Tsar instead of king or emperor or what have you. In Russian we actually call Tsar's wife Tsaritsa (tsa-REE-tsa, царица), and Tsar's daughter would be Tsarevna (tsa-RYEV-nah, царевна). Notably, last Russain pre-soviet monarch was Tsar, so you can argue that soviet announcer would call Parasoul 'tsarevna', but since she's actually a king's daughter i.e. princess, you are supposed to call her printsessa (preen-TSEHS-sa, принцесса).
Double is Borscht which indeed is Eastern European soup of Ukrainian origin. It's quite popular and memetic in Russia although I personally don't like it very much, so the idea of calling Double this kinda amused me. On the unrelated note, it's the default soup in Russia, at least as stereotypes go, so far in fact that it's used in sexist jokes (instead of making sandwich) and as example of things good wife should do. Mostly jokingly. Sometimes they refer to good borsh as proof of high cooking skill, but it's kinda stereotypical and there are a lot of people who actually does not like to cook/eat it very much. Me included. Also we're not pronuncing 'T' at the end of the word. We just call it bohrsh with that kind of 'sh' you would say in 'shit'. Cause we actually have two letters for 'sh' =ъ

Agreed, I thought it was going to be hilarious Russian accented antics, but he is actually a character (can we make the soviet announcer guy get a cameo as some intense reporter for the New Meridian news station or a judge of some sort?). There's depth in his approach; look at lines like "It's okay...I do better" and "next time is better, yes?" dude's got some nice variety in there.

    edit:
Whoa, that's pretty cool. I know you and the team are constantly busy as hell, but you should dabble here and there if time allows it(looks like you had really fun with this).

I botched the words for "murderess" and "singer" when practicing enough that I couldn't tell which bit was which bit. So call that like 25% intentional. :^P

Double just kind of looks like goop, and borscht kind of looks like goop, so it made sense to me.

I assumed that line is in the same tone as "feds are here, hide the drugs", and sounding like pyrogi/pierogi is just a coincidence.
The meaning being "forget the fight, food is here" after all is quite amusing, though!

Same with Double and borscht/barszcz. Expected some variation of "monster", got soup after all. Heh.
