Jump scares are the things that get me the most. I watched some of those videos and scared myself silly.

I like playing horror games but I am such a chicken shit I can't really handle 'em.
I really love RE1 and SH1-3. Anything with jumpscares is too much but I try anyway.
The PT (silent hills) is really well designed and looks fantastic. I friggin threw the controller when the dude comes up on the camera and kills you. How the hell do ya'll do it?

So I just watched that FNAF LP...somehow. Dang. I don't think I have it in me to play it. Watching it alone was stressful. The game takes helplessness to whole new levels - not only can't the player fight back, he can't even move from his spot. And I'm fairly certain there's no way to end a night with even 1% of tablet battery.
And that's probably the most stressful thing in the game - when the power goes down. There's that classical general shutdown sound effect, then the eyes pop up and the little tune kicks in and it's pretty much a coin toss - either make it through the night or get killed. But the suspense in that wait where the already helpless player is rendered completely incapacitated is quite terrifying.
Anyway, the game is certainly a overnight success. Its entry at KYM quickly skyrocketed in views, comments and submissions to the gallery. Incidentally, and to ease some of the stress:

Not particularly 'horror', but I had some fun times playing "The Hidden". It's really good for getting that pulse-pumping adrenalin high of horror/action games without the drawback of losing sleep over it later.

So after my 12 yo little brother and I got done being scared of Five Nights at Freddy's and looked up funny stuff of the game, my bro wanted to know how the Phone Guy knows that the animatronics are trying to shove you into a suit. Was there a second guard working with him and Phone Guy just happened to see the horror first hand? Or did Phone Guy just happen to have a night where Freddy caught him and it turned 6 AM right before he got shoved in?

Or does he just know for the sake of it being a game?

There's a few hints that Phone Guy has no idea what's actually going on, he only THINKS he knows. It should be obvious from the hallucinations and the "It's me" thing that there's more to it than rogue animatronics.

    Show Spoiler
The animatronics aren't just trying to shove you into a suit. The animatronics are trying to shove you into a suit because they're haunted by the spirits of a group of children murdered by a serial killer who was a security guard at Freddy's. They caught him when the video tapes from the security cameras showed him putting on an empty Freddy suit and luring the kids into the storage room, where all the spare parts for the characters are kept; unfortunately, the camera in the storage room was broken then (like the kitchen camera in the game), and the cops never found out what he did with the bodies. We can presume that's because the management at Freddy's found the rest of the evidence first and, being a corrupt bunch of bastards, did their best to destroy it -- anything to keep from tainting the reputation of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Unfortunately, they didn't do a good enough job, and people have been complaining on and off for AGES now about what looks like blood and mucus on the animatronics. Their reputation is finally catching up to them, and Freddy's is set to close by the end of whatever year the game is taking place in... but God only knows what that means for the haunted characters.

There's actually text in the game that supports this theory -- one of the hall posters has a chance of transforming into a series of newspaper articles about the incidents in question. Of course, unless you've ripped the image files from the game, trying to read them will probably get you killed.

Lots of theories around the animatronics. Haunted by kids, shoddy AI programming...lots of theories.
    Show Spoiler
Them being haunted would make a lot more sense if Night 7 didn't exist. Remember back when people thought Phone Guy was the guy stuffed into a Chica suit?

Speaking of FNaF, just had to watch Markiplier play it when it exploded on KYM, and all it got from me was a big fat NOPE. Not playing it. Never. I'd probably die of a heart attack. Seriously.

Even watching it on Youtube scares the crap out of me. Since the game barely has any controls beyond checking security cameras and clicking the door and light buttons, even watching it is just as close as playing the game is to me.

Kinda like Night Trap, but done horribly right.

Thank goodness KYM is full of silly stuff to make me forget that the game is horrifying for me.

I must be the only person on the planet who thinks Five Nights at Freddy's is completely overrated. Jump scares don't scare me, they just piss me off. I prefer a lot of mindscrew in my horror games. Like Yume Nikki style mindscrew. If a game isn't shaking the foundation of my existence, then I'm not gonna be scared.

Silent Hill is my favorite horror game. It didn't even scare me the game and first movie influenced me so much it shows up somewhere in anything I do. I was more or less inspired by the game

Since all of you are apparently horror game freaks, maybe you guys can help me? I remember playing a game when I was 7, I think it was horror at least.

It was a modern settings, although the city it took place in was pretty rundown as far as I can remember, specifically though I remember one part of the game where I wondered into the sewers to fight a giant mutated worm and there were little gremlin enemies running about the streets. It also was a PS1, possibly a early PS2 game.

First-person horror game on PS1? It might be a very wild guess, but you could be referring to "Hellnight" a.k.a. "Dark Messiah". I never played the game, but I've seen some videos of it where it takes place in a sewer.

The point of FNAF isn't so much the jump scares as it is placing the player in a state where he is helpless while having to be vigilant all the time. There are many horror games that deprive the player of means of fighting back but FNAF takes it a step further by depriving the players of means to run or hide.
It's essentially a twisted game of Statues where the curator has a limited number of times to turn around and see the playing field.

And on the subject of PE - shout-outs to Yoko Shimomura for that glorious OST. That game has some seriously good tunes.

PE was just good all around.
I also think I'm the only person that like PE 2. It was more action-y, but I really like the fact the weapons and armor were less customizable.

3rd Birthday would've been sweet if it wasn't a Parasite Eve game. The gameplay was actually fun. The story was crap.

Speaking of Five Nights at Freddy's, my friend has a theory that it's a mix of both, the Animatronics were acting up, but then the spirits of the murdered kids entered them, which messed up and gave them a sort of Phantom A.I.

I know I'm double posting but whatever. A few hours ago I sat down with my friend and she watched while I played Among the Sleep. The game was fantastic, but it was really short. The price should definitely be a lot lower than $20 because of the amount of time I was able to beat the game in. However, I still highly recommend playing it.

The scary moments were legitimately scary and it perfectly captures what the world is like through the eyes of a child. The story is so subtle and touching at the same time, my friend and I were discussing it all throughout the game and long after it had finished. I give it a solid 8.5/10. Play Among the Sleep but try to find it on sale.

Jump scares are hella lame and I'm tired of these first person walk into jumpscare and then continue walking type games. Best horror game is Silent Hill 2, man I love that game. I don't know if I'm really feeling PT/Silent Hills tho. I didn't play PT but from what I saw it doesn't really give off a Silent Hill kind of vibe.

    So I Among The Sleep'ed.

God fucking damn that was boring. I have never been so bored playing a horror game in my entire life.

All of it, absolutely all of it was unappealing to me.

As a book or Movie Beyond the Sleep would probably be really good.

As a game it felt dull. Everytime the loud noise rang and the screen shook I just kind of went "oh, okay, they WANT me to be scared, without actually trying to scare me".

Right now I am very torn on whether or not "The Evil Within" will be worth it. Some dumbass at bethesda decided to lock the PC version at 30fps. Also I feel like with the requirements it needs, it's not a very good port. Poorly optimized I might add.

Playing through Corpse Party Book of Shadows at night - it's a horror game, that's the only time to play - and I'm playing the Shangri-La chapter. I started early enough (10 pm) that I figured I wouldn't fall asleep...

Then I got lost and started wandering those damn halls for awhile. I got several bad endings before figruing out what I needed that wind up key for. But now I'm lost as that creepy perv Morishige now and after wandering around forever i decided to stop around 1 am since I'm falling asleep while waiting to get from point A to point B. I was jolted awake for a minute when I visited Classroom C and heard a voice saying not to turn around...

Aaaaaaand I tried doing that in-game but then I realized this isn't like the first game where you control your movement. Left and went back in only for nothing to happen. Meh, will start it up another night.

Guys, I really want to beat this game before October ends but it keeps getting harder to muster up the energy to play this. I keep getting lost and I don't want to resort to guides like the first game (not like they helped a lot). I can try to suck it up but this game just does a good job of putting me to sleep while I walk around. At least in the last one I had to pay attention to where I was going.

    Playing some evil within.

I am not enjoying this at all. RE 4 did a better job setting up atmosphere.

I am ten minutes in and the car textures aren't loading, I don't think the mc's name has been established, I'm in an "asylum", and I'm already in some kind of pool of blood. Fuck I'm bored.

I just watched ninja jesus assassin guy kill like 3 dudes on screen then hyper teleport behind the protag. Fucking bodies are strung upside down and I think I heard Chopin playing. This feels really contrived.

This has got to be the worst opener for a video game I've ever played.

I'm 20 minutes in and this already feels procedural.

This feels like all those new trendy pc horror games like outlast and shit where I have to hide in a closet for 10 minutes until spooky chainsaw man breaks down another setpiece obstacle so I can advance. Man I'm happy I don't actually own this game.

So now my leg is fixed, the fucking asylum just kind of blows up, and girl cop is with the "patient" and this opener is so bad I don't even care anymore. I have to thank my friend for letting me borrow this but jesus christ.

My friend told me later on it gets better and I hope so.

I've actually heard nothing but good reports on Evil Within, from some very discriminating acquaintances who value strong gameplay and horror fundamentals.

However a common complaint from almost all of them is that the first few chapters/20 minutes are awful and it picks up a lot after that.

It looks like it's trying to pick up the broken pieces of Silent Hills, a noble cause, they got the aesthetics down but topping or even matching PT is going to take a lot more then some really shinny wood floors and spoopy jump scares.
    It's still sparked my interest.
