I decided to make a little thread in general for one of my favorite genres out there, Rhythm Games. Basically, games where you input actions, directions, or follow directions to the beat or rhythm of a song.
And because most rhythm games probably wouldn't be enough for their own thread

So be it Elite Beat Agents, Guitar Hero, Just Dance, Rhythm Heaven, or what have you, talk about it here!

One special one I'd like to mention is Osu! An online freeware version of Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents where you download custom made beatmaps to popular songs, and try to get a worldwide ranking, it's really fun!

THe most recently released Rhythm game at the moment is Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F, a game with vocaloid songs for the most part, pretty fun though!

If you couldn't tell from my post in the Hidden Gems thread, I love rhythm games. In fact, for the last three years, I've had a picture of Gitaroo Man as my laptop background. I changed it a couple times for like an hour or so but always switched back.

I've only played the demo of the Vocaloid game. The first time I got my butt handed to me on 2/3 songs and the second time I somehow did better.

I haven't started it YET. But I heard part of the difficulty stems from all the colors and stuff going on in the video, it does a good job of distracting you, and I think I get what they mean

I played too much Rock Band when it first dropped. I'm pretty much done.

The main problem with rhythm games is that they still work like they did when they first came out. You're just pantomiming some sort of musical facsimile. Why aren't I rhythmically doing something awesome like killing robot ninja, or capturing renegade music notes that are threatening the united earth government? We can only fake play, sing, or dance for so long.

A few games have tried doing interesting things with rhythm gaming, but they mostly suck. Rock Of The Dead was interesting (but awful), and Sound Shapes on PSN was good, but not truly a rhythm game.

Well it's more like timing and getting into the song, there are some things that do rhythm in different ways, like Rhythm Thief does Rhythm and Puzzle Solving

I really love rhythm games, my favorite probably being Space Channel 5: Part 2. I played too much guitar hero/ rock band back in the day aswell, and had lots of Project Diva fun.

I played for guitar hero competitively for almost two years, but that's about it.

I kinda want to try Rocksmith though.

Seriously, the only ones I can think of that really are just hitting notes on a screen are the main stream ones like DDR, Guitar Hero/Rock Band, Just Dance, etc.

Parappa counts, I heard the creator of Parappa wouldn't mind making a third one, especially since he was in All-Stars Battle Royale

There was a game called Rhythm Thief on 3DS that looked promising.

It wasn't. If you own a 3DS and are thinking of getting it, please don't. The stages are boring, recycled and the story is bad and has a lot of consistencies.

    Maybe 6/10.

Osu! is really fun, I actually had to quit because i played it too much and hurt my hand...

I suggest getting Osu! because apparently everyone in the SGC love anime, and 30% of the songs are OSTs from anime. (but really it is very fun(and helps you with mouse control if you want that(like really(I had better mouse control than kiwikaki just sayin))))

Played about an hour or so of it and it's been okay. Seems like they going for was Layton as a rhythm game. I think the only stage type I feel like I'm going to dislike/hate later are the ones where you have to tilt the DS in certain directions. Tried it with that bonus(?) meat catching stage with the dog after robbing the Louvre and it wasn't too responsive once it got really fast.

And the voices: not too far to judge but Raphael probably could emote a little more. It's like he was just reading from the script.

The earlier stages were good but then they start recycling the same shit, they probably re used the dance mini game like 4-5 times. The tilt control ones were broken yeah but sadly my favorite song in the game was one that required the tilt controls. It was a bonus stage that is a harder version of the one where you had to face the butler.

They definitely count, they have you tap the notes to the rhythm, there's music, and there's things going on in the background
